Holy Thursday

Holy Thursday
Cycle B

There are three blessed realities, each one affecting our lives. These three are fruits of Jesus' own person this Holy Thursday, the washing of the feet.

The first reality is the institution of the Holy Eucharist. Jesus instructs his apostles and us, "Do this in remembrance of me." Do not forget! Every Eucharist we celebrate is a sharing in the life of our Lord Jesus. It is everything of who we are and what we have. It is a vision of our destination in heaven.

The second reality is the institution of the priesthood. Priesthood connotes being configured to Christ as head and shepherd. It is life totally dedicated to the Lord and offering everything for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.

The third reality is Christ's law of brotherly love. "Love one another as I have loved you," the Lord commanded. Again, this involves the total giving of self for others, to take the role of a slave, a servant, to wash each others' feet.

In these three realities, there is one truth - Jesus Christ and all he stood for - life and love. In Jesus' world mankind lives.
