How far should real love go?

4th Sunday of Easter

John 10:11-18

We are blessed to have experienced love from our parents, siblings, friends, and lovers.  But how far would our love go?

If we want to know the depth of real love, it should end in God because only God is love.  And if the love promised by lovers doesn't reach to God, that love is worthless. 

How does God love us?  It is shown by the readings for today.  In the first reading, it says, "Are you questioning an act of kindness done to a cripple?" I am reminded by the generosity of people in the 
community pantries.  It was met with suspicion that they are tagged "red" even called "demon".  When did we ever question a simple act of kindness?

Secondly, "See how God lavished us by calling us his children?"  How do parents love their children?  They would give everything for their children.  Have we realized how much God loves us?  Like the good Shepherd, the conscientious parent will always bring his/her children to greener pastures so they may have life.

Third, "The Good Shepherd lays down his life for his sheep."  This is the real depth of commitment of a shepherd, the willingness to lay down one's life for the sheep.  This is where love should go. And even if that love is rejected, the person will still give his life for love.

As we also celebrate the World day of Vocations, realize that the call of God is a call to love.  And the person responding to God's call is a real person in love - to be kind to others, to take care of others, and offer one's life for those whom God loves.
