ACTIONs THAT IMPLORE THE LORD AT ALL TIMES

2023 MAY 20 SAT: EASTER WEEKDAY/ BERNARDINE OF SIENA, P, R, MS

Acts 18: 23-28/ Ps 47: 2-3. 8-9. 10/ Jn 16: 23b-28

Abraham Maslow came up with a theory of the Hierarchy of Needs.  His contribution to psychology was welcomed by people till today.  Men’s needs are like a pyramid, with a hierarchy as follows: physiological needs, security, belongingness, accomplishment, and transcendence.  Granted that all below are met, only then could we think of transcendental needs like spirituality.

In the world of faith, this is different.  Faith calls us to God at whatever hierarchy we are in: whether it be material, social, or spiritual needs.  The Our Father shows us how to pray:

First, that in all things God may be glorified.

Second, that we don’t hesitate to call to Him for all our needs, starting with food.

Third, that we forgive others as God forgives us.

Fourth, to deliver us from the evil one.

The prayer of Our Father is complete. It is a prayer of commendation to the Father of who we are.
