THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: JOYFUL FOLLOWING THE LORD

2023 MAY 30 TUE: ORDINARY WEEKDAY

Sir 35: 1-12/ Ps 50: 5-6. 7-8. 14 and 23/ Mk 10: 28-31

How do we detect that we are responding to the promptings of the Holy Spirit?

First, we are observing the law as oblation or self-offering to God. Obedience is a difficult task, but it is a powerful gift of the Holy Spirit – to abide by the precepts of the Law of the Lord rather than follow one’s caprice.

Second, in works of charity. In Sirach, it says, “In works of charity one offers fine flour, and when he gives alms, he presents his sacrifice of praise” (Sir 35: 1 – 23).  Let us integrate sacrifice with mercy as the Lord always wants.

Third, to refrain from evil.  Avoid any acts of injustice.

If we are doing these things, we are not only sensitive to the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we are following the Lord with joy and humility.
